Cigar Humidors And Humidification

If you are storing your favourite cigars, you will want to keep them at an optimal temperature of around 70 degrees Fahrenheit, and at a humidity level of around 68% to 72%. Whilst that may sound like a simple task, in fact this can be a very difficult thing to achieve. Maintaining a consistent level of humidity requires contending with seasonal transitions and the ongoing level of humidity inside your house (or where you keep you cigar humidor), both of which can have a serious impact upon the functionality of the humidification system in your humidor.

While many of us are unaware of the fact, the use of heaters and air conditioners near your humidor will have a large impact upon the humidity level of the cabinet.

The amount of humidity insider the cigar humidor is greatly impacted upon by its surroundings, and both heaters and air conditioners can significantly change the humidity level indoors. Direct sunlight will also cause the humidity level to fall dramatically in your humidor.

Should you be aware that the humidity levels are falling, then it pays to regularly check your humidor and add humidifying solution or distilled water as required. Alternatively, if this is not enough to increase humidity levels, adding a second device may be necessary, and Cigar Savor's DryMistat is ideal for just this situation.

The Cigar Savors DryMistat is a long plastic tube, similar in appearance to a cigar that holds gelatine-like droplets which absorb water. The tube is filled with water until the water level is parallel to an upper line (one of two markings on the outside). You then simply place the device into the humidor, watching to see if the water level will fall to the lower line. When this happens, you will then fill the tube again until the water level is restored to the upper line. This should only be necessary once every two months or thereabouts.

This DryMistat is priced at around $9, making it one of the cheapest and simplest ways of maintaining the correct level of humidity in the humidor. If necessary you will be able to add a second or even a third and fourth DryMistat. This device is particularly useful if you are travelling with your humidor, and some people have even opted to replace their original humidification device with this handy little apparatus.
